A tragic incident occurred in Sheikhpura on Friday when a 20-year-old youth, Rishi Kumar, drowned after falling into a water-filled pit on the roadside. The incident took place on Kacchi Road, under the Nagar Police Station jurisdiction. Rishi, son of Surendra Mistri from Husainabad village, had left his home in the morning to go to the market.

According to the police, Rishi was an epilepsy patient, and it is suspected that he suffered a seizure, leading to his fall into the pit and subsequent drowning. Under the leadership of Ariyari Station Head Rajkumar Sah, the police recovered the body and his bicycle, sending them for post-mortem at the Sadar Hospital. A case of unnatural death (UD case) has been registered.

Rishi was the elder of two brothers, and his wedding was scheduled for next 'Phagun' (a Hindu month, roughly February-March). The untimely demise has cast a pall of grief over his family and the entire village. Local residents have expressed concern over unattended open pits along roadsides and urged the administration to take appropriate measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
