An e-rickshaw driver couple was allegedly assaulted in Sirdala, Gaya district. The victims have accused the husband and sons of a ward member of demanding a commission for operating their e-rickshaw and assaulting them when they refused to pay. The incident took place in Laund village, under Sirdala police station jurisdiction, where e-rickshaw driver Mahendra Yadav and his wife were reportedly abused and beaten.

Mahendra Yadav stated that he and his wife were traveling from Sirdala market to Laund village when they were stopped by the ward member's husband and his sons. They allegedly demanded a commission for allowing them to operate their e-rickshaw. When Yadav refused to pay, he was verbally abused and physically assaulted. His wife, who attempted to intervene, was also reportedly mistreated. The couple is now fearful and has appealed to the local administration for justice.

Following the incident, the victim couple has filed a complaint at the Sirdala police station. The police are currently investigating the matter. This incident highlights issues of alleged illegal extortion and local strong-arm tactics prevalent in some areas. Small business owners and drivers often become victims of commission demands and forced payments by influential individuals. The involvement of a ward member's family in such allegations makes the situation even more serious, as ward members are elected to serve the public, not engage in illegal activities.
