In Sitamarhi district, criminals appear to be operating with impunity. On Saturday evening, a property dealer named Dinesh Yadav was brutally shot dead by unidentified assailants in Mehendi Nagar, under the Reega police station area. According to reports, the attackers fired multiple rounds at Dinesh Yadav, hitting him with approximately seven bullets. He succumbed to excessive blood loss at the scene.

Eyewitnesses stated that four unknown criminals on two motorcycles carried out the attack and immediately fled towards Bhavdepur railway crossing. Locals rushed a critically injured Dinesh Yadav to the Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The deceased was identified as Dinesh Yadav, son of Suresh Yadav, a resident of RD Palace Road in Sitamarhi city, who worked primarily in property dealing.

Upon receiving news of the murder, Sadar SDPO-1 Rajiv Kumar Singh, along with teams from Nagar Thana and Reega Thana, promptly arrived at the Sadar Hospital to assess the situation. As news of Dinesh Yadav's murder spread, a large number of his family members, relatives, and supporters gathered at the hospital, expressing anger against the police administration.

The police team has initiated an investigation at the crime scene, recovering bullet casings. Initial investigations suggest old enmity or personal rivalry as a strong possibility behind the incident. Police records indicate that the deceased Dinesh Yadav's brother, Rakesh Yadav, currently absconding, is a prime accused in the murder of prominent businessman Wasim Ahmed Khan alias Puttu Khan, which occurred on July 12, 2025, in Mehasauli Chowk. However, police officials have not yet confirmed any direct link between Dinesh Yadav's murder and the older criminal case. Police stated that a thorough investigation is underway, considering all angles, and the culprits will be identified and arrested soon.
