A suspected case of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), locally known as 'Chamki Bukhar', has been reported at the Mushahari Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Muzaffarpur. The patient received initial treatment at the PHC and has since been referred to Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for specialized care. This incident highlights the ongoing threat of AES in the region, particularly during the summer months when cases tend to surge.

According to health officials, the patient exhibited early symptoms consistent with AES. Doctors at the Mushahari PHC promptly administered primary care to stabilize the patient's condition before referring them to SKMCH, a major treatment center for AES in the area. SKMCH is equipped with expert medical staff and necessary facilities to provide comprehensive treatment.

AES is a severe neurological illness primarily affecting children, characterized by high fever, convulsions, and unconsciousness. Muzaffarpur and its neighboring districts have historically been vulnerable to this disease, with significant fatalities reported annually, especially during the litchi season. Health authorities are continuously working on prevention and awareness campaigns, advising residents on hygiene, ensuring children are fed before bedtime, and protecting them from intense heat.

Following this suspected case, the health department has re-issued an alert to all PHCs and hospitals, urging them to remain vigilant for prompt identification and treatment of any potential AES cases. Parents are also advised not to ignore any suspicious symptoms in their children and to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health facility.
