उन्होंने मृतक अशोक यादव के तैल चित्र पर पुष्प अर्पित कर श्रद्धांजलि दी। इस दौरान उन्होंने अशोक यादव की पत्नी स्मिता देवी और पुत्र सितेश कुमार को सांत्वना दी। तेजस्वी यादव ने सितेश कुमार को प्रेरित करते हुए कहा कि वे मन लगाकर 12वीं की परीक्षा पास करें, जिसके बाद वे उनकी सरकारी नौकरी के लिए सरकार से हरसंभव प्रयास करेंगे और लड़ेंगे। उन्होंने परिवार को इस दुख की घड़ी में आर्थिक सहायता भी प्रदान की।
पीड़ित परिवार से मिलने के बाद तेजस्वी यादव ने सभा स्थल पर पहुंचकर एक जनसभा को संबोधित किया। उन्होंने मधुबनी गोलीकांड की घटना को 'दिल दहला देने वाली और क्षमा योग्य नहीं' बताया। राज्य की वर्तमान सरकार पर हमला बोलते हुए तेजस्वी यादव ने कहा कि जो लोग 'चोर दरवाजे से आकर मुख्यमंत्री बनते हैं', वे कानून-व्यवस्था पर क्या बोलेंगे। उन्होंने यह भी आरोप लगाया कि प्रदेश में कानून-व्यवस्था नाम की कोई चीज नहीं रह गई है।
