The village of Tikarampur in Bhagalpur district is facing severe erosion from the Ganga River, creating an atmosphere of fear among residents. Over the past month, hundreds of feet of agricultural land have been swallowed by the river. The Ganga, which once flowed several kilometers away, is now just 300 meters from the village, raising serious concerns about its very existence.

According to villagers, while erosion is an annual problem, its intensity this year is unprecedented. Their fields, threshing floors, and orchards are gradually disappearing into the river. Many families have lost their fertile land, leading to a deep crisis in their livelihoods. Locals reported that several homes have already been displaced due to erosion, and those still residing in the village live in constant fear of an uncertain future.

Elderly residents of the village state they have never seen the Ganga come so close in their lifetime. Efforts made by the government and administration to prevent erosion have proven insufficient. Villagers have appealed to the administration to take immediate and effective measures to save their village and the remaining land. They warn that if concrete steps are not taken soon, Tikarampur village could be completely wiped out.

This situation is not limited to Tikarampur; similar problems are being observed in several other villages along the Ganga. This is part of a larger issue of river erosion in Bihar, which displaces thousands of people and causes crores of rupees in property damage annually.
