Chandan Kumar, the prime accused in the murder of Army jawan Rakesh Kumar, was killed in a police encounter in Vaishali district. The incident occurred when Chandan was being taken for a medical examination after his arrest. He reportedly snatched an INSAS rifle from a police officer and began firing, prompting the police to retaliate.

Rakesh Kumar, an army personnel, was murdered on June 10 in his native village. Chandan Kumar was identified as the main culprit. Police arrested Chandan and were transporting him to Sadar Hospital for a medical check-up when the encounter took place. According to police sources, Chandan managed to disarm a police officer, grabbed the INSAS rifle, and attempted to flee, firing multiple rounds at the police team.

Police described Chandan Kumar as a habitual offender with several criminal cases registered against him. The police had been actively searching for him since the jawan's murder. When Chandan continued firing despite police attempts to cordon him off, officers were forced to open fire in self-defense. Chandan was critically injured in the exchange and succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.

The incident has created tension in the area, but police assert the situation is under control. The Vaishali Superintendent of Police stated that the police team acted bravely to neutralize a dangerous criminal. Some police personnel were also reportedly injured and have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. A detailed investigation into the incident has been ordered.
