Valmiki Tiger Reserve Reopens After 4 Months in Bihar, Offering Jungle Safari to Rafting
Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in West Champaran, Bihar, has reopened for tourists from October 17 after a four-month monsoon break. Visitors can now enjoy the serene beauty of Valmikinagar along with thrilling activities. The VTR administration is fully prepared to welcome a large number of domestic and international tourists this season.
The reserve offers a range of attractions, including jungle safaris, rafting in the Gandak River, and visits to ancient temples. Through jungle safaris, tourists can observe various herbivores, carnivores, and bird species. Key religious sites include the Nar Devi Temple, Jata Shankar Temple, Mahakaleshwar Temple, and the hermitage of Maharishi Valmiki. The Nar Devi Temple is believed to have been established by Alha and Udal, while the Jata Shankar Temple is located 3 km from Gol Chowk. The Mahakaleshwar Temple, situated on the banks of the Narayani River, is thought to have been built by the King of Bettiah Raj. Valmiki Ashram is historically significant as the place where Mata Sita gave birth to Lava and Kusha.
For accommodation, the VTR administration has constructed modern facilities like tree huts and bamboo huts. The tree huts are built 50-80 feet high on trees, while the bamboo huts are entirely made of bamboo. For adventure seekers, a 600-meter-long canopy walk, also known as Ram Jhula, offers an exhilarating experience. Additionally, about four kilometers from Valmikinagar, there is a market called Triveni known for foreign goods, where tourists can enjoy shopping.
