With the onset of monsoon in Bihar, incidents of lightning strikes are on the rise. In a tragic incident in Bhadaur village, a woman died and her young daughter was seriously injured when lightning struck them while they were harvesting moong (green gram) crop in a field. A goat also perished in the incident.

The deceased, identified as 35-year-old Ranju Devi, a resident of Bhadaur village, was with her 8-year-old daughter in the field. The weather suddenly deteriorated, accompanied by thunder and rain. A powerful lightning bolt struck Ranju Devi and her daughter directly. Ranju Devi succumbed to her injuries on the spot, while her daughter sustained severe burns and fell unconscious. A goat grazing nearby also fell victim to the lightning strike.

Other farmers working in adjacent fields witnessed the horrific event and rushed to their aid. They immediately took the injured child to a local hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Her condition is reported to be critical. Upon receiving information, local administration and police reached the spot. The police have sent the body for post-mortem examination. The incident has cast a pall of grief over Bhadaur village, with the family members in deep shock. Local residents have appealed to the government for appropriate compensation for the victim's family. There is also a felt need for awareness campaigns on lightning safety, especially in rural and agricultural areas where people often become victims of such accidents while working in fields.
