A woman who was injured in a shooting incident two months ago in Mora village, under the Gidhaur police station area of Jamui district, has succumbed to her injuries during treatment. The deceased has been identified as Rupa Devi (50), wife of Lukhad Yadav, a resident of Mora village. She died on Sunday evening in Patna.

The incident occurred on the night of August 21, 2026, when three assailants arrived on foot at Rupa Devi's house. Their target was her nephew, Sintu Kumar. The criminals fired three rounds at the house. According to family members, Sintu took cover behind his aunt, Rupa Devi, to protect himself. During this, a bullet intended for Sintu struck Rupa Devi in the abdomen. She collapsed, and the assailants fled through a maize field.

Family members and villagers rushed to the scene upon hearing the gunshots. Rupa Devi was immediately taken to Digvijay Singh Community Health Center, Gidhaur. After primary treatment, doctors referred her to Jamui Sadar Hospital. Due to her critical condition, she was then sent to PMCH Patna for better treatment. Relatives stated that doctors had discharged her two days prior, and she had been brought home, but her condition suddenly deteriorated on Sunday, leading to her death.

Following the incident, Gidhaur police arrived at the scene and recovered one spent cartridge and two live cartridges. An FIR was also registered in the case. Rupa Devi's brother-in-law, Dablu Yadav, stated that his sister-in-law became an innocent victim of the crime, as the bullets were meant for her nephew.

Questions are being raised about the police's actions, as no arrests have been made even after two months. In-charge SDPO and Cyber DSP Abhishek Kumar confirmed receiving information about the woman's death. He stated that the body has been sent for post-mortem at Jamui Sadar Hospital after completing the necessary paperwork. He added that a case was already registered, and police have obtained some important clues.
