A serious case of dowry harassment has emerged from the Raniganj police station area in Araria district. Sanjay Mehta, a resident of Ward No. 19, Vistoria Panchayat, under Raniganj police station, has filed a complaint at the Raniganj police station, alleging that his sister, Leela Devi, was poisoned and beaten by her in-laws for dowry.

According to Sanjay Mehta, his sister Leela Devi was married to Saroj Mehta, a resident of Raghupur Pachira, Raniganj, in 2013. A few months after the marriage, her husband Saroj Mehta, mother-in-law Chandrakala Devi, and sister-in-law Poonam Kumari allegedly began physically and mentally torturing Leela Devi, demanding a dowry of one lakh rupees.

It is alleged that recently, the three jointly severely beat Leela Devi and administered poison to her, leading to her critical condition. With the help of neighbors and villagers, Leela Devi was immediately rushed to Araria Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

Raniganj Station House Officer Dharmendra Kumar stated that Sanjay Mehta's application has been received. The police are thoroughly investigating the matter, and strict action will be taken against the culprits as per the law. This incident once again highlights the need for stringent laws and awareness against the dowry system in society.
