A tragic road accident occurred on Wednesday evening in the Khariq police station area of Bhagalpur district. A pickup van collided head-on with a motorcycle near the Jio petrol pump, resulting in the immediate death of one youth and serious injuries to another. The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Vikas Kumar, a resident of Tulsipur village, also within the Khariq police station limits.

Eyewitnesses reported that the pickup van was speeding when it struck the oncoming motorcycle. The impact was so severe that Vikas Kumar succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The other youth riding with him sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital by locals, where he is currently receiving treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.

Upon receiving information, Khariq police arrived at the scene, secured the body for post-mortem, and seized the pickup van. The driver, however, managed to flee the scene and is currently at large. Police have launched an investigation and are actively searching for the absconding driver. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area, particularly in Tulsipur village, where Vikas Kumar's family is in deep distress. Locals are urging authorities to enforce stricter road safety regulations and control speeding vehicles.
