A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, in Pokhrauni village, under the Sadullahpur Panchayat of Bisfi block in Madhubani district. A 9-year-old boy, Chahat Kumar, drowned in the Dhaus River while bathing.

According to reports, Chahat Kumar, son of Vinod Das from Pokhrauni village, had gone to bathe in the Dhaus River with his brother. While bathing, his foot slipped from the steps built along the riverbank, causing him to fall into deep water and drown. Upon receiving news of the incident, villagers immediately began searching for the child that night, but the darkness hampered their efforts.

On Thursday, August 13, a search operation was resumed in the morning. During this time, the child's body was found entangled in a fisherman's net. The body was retrieved from the river. As soon as the incident was reported, Bisfi Police Station SHO Avinash Kumar, along with his police team, arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Bisfi Circle Officer Santosh Kumar Singh also visited the spot, reviewed the situation, and gathered information from the grieving family.

Circle Officer Santosh Kumar Singh stated that the process to provide government assistance benefits to the deceased's family, under the provisions of the Disaster Management Department, would be initiated. Necessary actions are being taken by the administration. Sadullahpur Panchayat head Avinash Kumar Paswan expressed his condolences to the affected family and provided financial assistance at his level. The recovery of Chahat's body has cast a pall of grief over the entire village. This incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of children near rivers and other water bodies.
