Police in Araria have taken significant action against the illegal drug trade. On Monday evening, Nagar Thana police raided a premises in Kusiyargaon and seized 156 kilograms of ganja. Police had received a tip-off about suspicious activities at a premises near the Kusiyargaon Biodiversity Park, opposite a petrol pump, where a large consignment of narcotics was suspected to be hidden.

After confirming the information, Nagar Thana police cordoned off the premises and launched a search operation. During the search, several large plastic sacks found in the house were inspected, revealing a total of 156 kilograms of high-quality ganja. Its estimated value in the international market is several lakhs of rupees. Police primarily believe that this consignment was intended for distribution to nearby districts and local traffickers.

According to the police, the recovery was made from a house built on a vacant plot belonging to former Narpatganj MLA Jaiprakash Yadav, which had been rented out. However, the tenant residing in the house fled before the police action. Initial investigations revealed the premises belonged to the former MLA. Former MLA Jaiprakash Yadav expressed his unawareness of the entire matter, stating that the house was rented out and he had no knowledge of the activities taking place there. An FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act against the absconding tenant, Awadhesh Rishidev, and raids are ongoing at potential hideouts for his arrest. SDPO Sushil Kumar stated that following a tip-off, action was taken in accordance with the SOP under the NDPS Act, leading to the seizure of 156 kg of ganja.
