Araria: Following a statewide call by the Bihar Health Services Association (BHASA) in protest against a violent incident involving the Civil Surgeon in Arwal, health services in Araria district were severely impacted. On Tuesday, doctors across various government hospitals, including the Sadar Hospital, completely boycotted Outpatient Department (OPD) services.

This protest caused significant difficulties for patients seeking treatment. Normally, Araria Sadar Hospital's OPD attends to an average of 600 to 700 patients daily, but due to the strike, only about 350 patients could be seen. Many vulnerable patients from remote rural areas had to return without treatment or were forced to turn to private clinics. However, emergency and life-saving services remained fully operational, ensuring continuous treatment for critical patients.

According to BHASA, no effective action has been taken against those responsible for the incident at Arwal Sadar Hospital involving the Civil Surgeon, even by July 21, 2026. This inaction has fueled a sense of insecurity and deep resentment among doctors and medical officers in Araria district. The doctors' primary demands include immediate action against the culprits and ensuring robust workplace safety for doctors and healthcare workers in hospitals.

As part of the protest, a delegation of doctors led by Sadar Hospital Superintendent Dr. Rajendra Prasad submitted a detailed memorandum to the Civil Surgeon (CS) of Araria, with a copy also sent to the District Magistrate. Doctors have warned that their protest will continue until the state government ensures their safety and takes strict action against the culprits. Vikas Anand, Sadar Hospital Manager, stated that while OPD services were curtailed, all other essential facilities, including emergency services, necessary tests, and medicines, were provided without interruption.
