बेतिया में आशा कार्यकर्ताओं ने अपनी विभिन्न मांगों को लेकर जमकर प्रदर्शन किया। इन कार्यकर्ताओं ने मुख्य रूप से ₹26 हजार मासिक मानदेय और सरकारी कर्मचारी का दर्जा दिए जाने की मांग उठाई। प्रदर्शनकारियों का कहना है कि वे ग्रामीण स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं की रीढ़ हैं, लेकिन उन्हें बहुत कम मानदेय पर काम करना पड़ रहा है, जिससे उनके परिवारों का भरण-पोषण मुश्किल हो गया है।
आशा कार्यकर्ताओं ने बिहार सरकार से केंद्र सरकार के समान मानदेय देने की अपील की। उन्होंने तर्क दिया कि जब केंद्र सरकार ने आशा कार्यकर्ताओं के लिए मानदेय बढ़ाने की सिफारिश की है, तो राज्य सरकार को भी इस पर विचार करना चाहिए। उनका कहना था कि महंगाई लगातार बढ़ रही है, ऐसे में मौजूदा मानदेय राशि में गुजारा करना असंभव है।
प्रदर्शन के दौरान, आशा कार्यकर्ताओं ने चेतावनी दी कि यदि उनकी मांगों को जल्द से जल्द पूरा नहीं किया गया, तो वे अपने आंदोलन को और तेज करेंगी। उन्होंने कहा कि वे तब तक संघर्ष करती रहेंगी जब तक उनकी जायज मांगों को मान नहीं लिया जाता। इस विरोध प्रदर्शन में बड़ी संख्या में आशा कार्यकर्ता शामिल हुईं, जिन्होंने अपनी एकजुटता का प्रदर्शन किया। उन्होंने नारे लगाए और अपनी मांगों से संबंधित पोस्टर प्रदर्शित किए।
आशा कार्यकर्ताओं ने बताया कि वे ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में स्वास्थ्य जागरूकता, टीकाकरण, मातृ एवं शिशु स्वास्थ्य जैसी महत्वपूर्ण सेवाएं प्रदान करती हैं। कोविड-19 महामारी के दौरान भी उन्होंने अपनी जान जोखिम में डालकर महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई थी। इसके बावजूद, उन्हें उचित सम्मान और पारिश्रमिक नहीं मिल रहा है। उन्होंने सरकार से आग्रह किया कि उनके योगदान को पहचाना जाए और उन्हें सरकारी कर्मचारी का दर्जा देकर सामाजिक सुरक्षा प्रदान की जाए। इस आंदोलन से स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं पर भी असर पड़ने की आशंका है यदि सरकार उनकी मांगों पर गंभीरता से विचार नहीं करती है।
