Aurangabad, Bihar: The city of Aurangabad is grappling with a surge in burglaries, as thieves targeted four locked houses in the posh Vastu Vihar colony in a single night. Among the affected properties is the residence of Bihar Congress State President Rajesh Kumar, triggering widespread panic and raising serious questions about police effectiveness.

Late Sunday night, four burglars scaled the boundary wall to enter the Vastu Vihar society. For approximately an hour, they systematically broke into four unoccupied homes, committing thefts without detection. The entire incident was captured by CCTV cameras installed in the society. Mufassil Police Station is now using the footage to identify the culprits.

The most significant theft occurred at the home of Santosh Singh, from where an estimated 20 lakh rupees worth of gold and silver jewelry was stolen. Singh and his family were away in Deoghar. Upon his wife's return on Monday morning, she found the main gate lock broken and the wardrobe ransacked.

Bihar Congress President Rajesh Kumar's locked house was also targeted. Kumar had left for Patna the day before, and his caretaker had also gone to his village on Sunday evening. Upon receiving information, Congress leader Suraj Rai visited the scene and informed the police.

Residents of Vastu Vihar are expressing deep anger and frustration. Locals pointed out that similar thefts occurred in the colony about 14 months ago, with no major breakthroughs from the police. They questioned how ordinary citizens can feel safe when even the house of a state party president is vulnerable. The continuous string of burglaries has led to doubts about the effectiveness of police patrolling.

Reacting to the incident, Rajesh Kumar criticized the government, stating that the value of stolen items from his house is secondary to the larger question of citizen safety in Bihar. He alleged that law and order in the state are in a dire condition, and criminals no longer fear the police. Mufassil Police claim they are actively working to identify the suspects based on CCTV footage and will take swift action.
