Sanitation workers from various panchayats in Babubarhi block, Madhubani district, staged a protest at the block office, demanding the payment of their outstanding wages. The workers, who arrived with their garbage collection handcarts, expressed strong resentment, stating they have not received their honorarium for the past 13 months. They warned of an indefinite strike and work boycott if their dues are not cleared soon.

These sanitation workers, appointed under the Lohia Swachh Bihar Abhiyan, have been engaged in door-to-door garbage collection and sanitation work in panchayats for the past two years. Despite their continuous efforts, they allege that they have not been paid for 13 months. The unpaid wages have made it difficult for them to support their families. They further stated that multiple complaints to concerned मुखिया (village head) and panchayat secretaries have only resulted in assurances.

Protesting workers highlighted their growing financial distress due to the prolonged non-payment. They reiterated their commitment to regular sanitation duties but emphasized that their economic hardships are becoming unbearable. They firmly stated that if the pending honorarium is not disbursed promptly, they will cease work and commence an indefinite strike. Dozens of sanitation workers from different panchayats in Babubarhi block participated in the demonstration.
