Serious irregularities have come to light in the construction of a covered drain in Khadaua village, Rata Panchayat, under the Fullidumar block of Banka district. The project, costing approximately 15 lakh rupees from the 15th Finance Commission fund, was found to be of unsatisfactory quality during an surprise inspection by Block Development Officer (BDO) Amit Pratap Singh on Thursday.

During the inspection, the BDO observed that substandard bricks, sand, and cement mixtures were being used in the construction work. He severely reprimanded the agency and personnel present at the site. The BDO stated that the investigation was initiated based on continuous complaints from villagers. Furthermore, a display board related to the scheme was not installed at the worksite, which is a violation of government rules. The Panchayat Secretary, who is the agent for the scheme, also lacked proper knowledge of the construction work, which the BDO deemed a serious lapse.

BDO Amit Pratap Singh announced that a detailed report would be prepared against the Panchayat Secretary and other concerned officials for the irregularities and negligence found in the construction. This report, along with video evidence, will be sent to the District Magistrate (DM) for necessary action against the culprits. The BDO also mentioned that complaints are being received regarding other development schemes in the block, and sequential investigations will be conducted, with strict action taken if irregularities are found. This action by the BDO has caused a stir among the concerned departments and construction agencies, while villagers have welcomed the administration's initiative and demanded stern action against those responsible.
