A man was arrested in Banka district for allegedly impersonating a police officer and attempting cyber fraud. The accused reportedly approached people, claiming to be a police officer, and demanded money under the pretexts of 'Skill India' scheme benefits and exchanging old currency notes.

According to information received, the accused was moving around various areas of Banka, presenting himself as a high-ranking police official. He attempted to lure unsuspecting individuals by promising government jobs under the 'Skill India' program and offering to exchange old, demonetized currency notes for a commission. His primary goal was to extract advance payments from people using these deceptive tactics.

Local police received intelligence about these suspicious activities. Acting swiftly, a police team launched an investigation into the matter. Based on technical surveillance and information from informants, the police identified the accused and set a trap, leading to his arrest. The timely intervention by the police prevented the accused from successfully carrying out his fraudulent intentions.

The arrested individual is currently being interrogated to uncover any other members of his syndicate and to ascertain if he has been involved in previous fraudulent activities. Police have urged the public to remain vigilant against such fraudsters who attempt to extort money by luring them with government schemes or attractive offers.
