The Election Commission of India has issued a notification for the upcoming by-election on the crucial Bankipur assembly seat in Patna. With this, the Model Code of Conduct has been enforced in the constituency with immediate effect. As per the schedule released by the Commission, polling for the Bankipur seat will take place on July 10, and the counting of votes will be done on July 13.

The nomination process for this by-election began on June 14, with June 21 set as the last date for filing nominations. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted on June 22, and candidates will have until June 24 to withdraw their candidacies. This by-election is being held to fill a seat left vacant due to the demise of the sitting MLA.

With the Model Code of Conduct in force, no new development projects can be announced or inaugurated in the Bankipur assembly constituency. Additionally, government machinery cannot be used to favor any particular party or candidate. The Election Commission has urged all political parties and candidates to strictly adhere to the Model Code of Conduct to ensure a fair and peaceful election. District administration and police have commenced preparations, identifying sensitive polling booths and tightening security. Voters are also encouraged to exercise their franchise without fear or inducement. Political activity has intensified in the constituency, with various party candidates strategizing for victory.
