Pranav Kumar, a third-year B. Pharma student from Begusarai, was found hanging in his hostel room at IITM (International Institute of Technology and Management) Murthal, Sonipat, Haryana, on the night of August 23. Pranav was the only son of Nagendra Jha and Vandana Devi, residents of Hemra-Eghu Mohalla in Begusarai. His parents are lawyers in Begusarai and Manjhaul courts.

Hostel guards and other students brought Pranav down and rushed him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body was brought back to Begusarai on Tuesday evening for the final rites. Police found a diary in Pranav's room with a note stating, 'I loved you, but you didn't become mine. I will always remember you. If I live, I will try.' Family members have alleged a love affair and financial pressure, claiming that the girl with whom Pranav was in a relationship allegedly pressured him for money.

According to Pranav's maternal uncle, Dilip Kumar, Pranav had enrolled in IITM Murthal about three years ago, and his B. Pharma course was due to be completed in 2027. On Sunday evening, Pranav had spoken to his father on the phone and reported that everything was normal. A few hours later, the family received news of his death.

Pranav's mother, Vandana Devi, stated that the college's admission in-charge informed her about the incident around 11:30 PM on August 23. She alleged that Pranav had a dispute with a fellow hostel resident named Harsh, and that Harsh, along with his associates, murdered her son and then hung his body to make it look like a suicide. The family attempted to file a named complaint at Murthal Police Station, but the station head allegedly refused to accept a named application and insisted on registering it as a suicide. The truth is expected to emerge after a police investigation.
