Employees of Benipur Nagar Parishad in Darbhanga district went on an indefinite strike starting Thursday. This strike is part of a statewide agitation launched by urban local body workers across Bihar to press for their various demands. Key demands of the employees include regularization, service security, an end to contract and outsourcing systems, provision of equal pay for equal work, and benefits under the ACP/MACP scheme.

The urban local body workers state that they have been making significant contributions to essential services such as sanitation, water supply, street lighting, revenue collection, and other civic amenities for years. Despite this, they claim that the government and administration have not taken adequate steps to resolve their issues. Before the strike, the employees also held a torch procession as called for by their union. This indefinite strike is expected to severely impact sanitation, water supply, and other civic facilities in the Benipur Nagar Parishad area. Basic services like maintaining cleanliness and ensuring water supply could be disrupted, potentially causing inconvenience to local residents.
