COVID-19 Patient in Bhagalpur Prompts Increased Vigilance in Banka
Following the confirmation of a patient infected with the new Omicron sub-variant RF-5 in Bhagalpur, the health department in Banka district has heightened its surveillance. Hospitals and health centers across Banka have been instructed to increase vigilance. Banka Civil Surgeon Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that while there is no need to panic, complacency must be avoided. He assured that all necessary arrangements are in place at the Sadar Hospital.
The health department has directed all government hospitals to pay special attention to patients exhibiting symptoms such as cold, cough, fever, and respiratory issues. Samples from such patients will be sent for testing if required. Furthermore, the availability of oxygen, essential medicines, and the readiness of isolation wards in hospitals are being reviewed.
Dr. Singh advised particular caution for the elderly, pregnant women, individuals with serious illnesses, and those with weakened immune systems. He urged anyone experiencing persistent fever, cough, sore throat, or difficulty breathing to consult a doctor immediately instead of self-medicating. He also appealed to the public not to believe rumors and to avoid panic. Key symptoms include high or mild fever, sore throat, persistent cough, runny or blocked nose, headache, body and muscle aches, extreme fatigue, and in some cases, difficulty breathing. Simple preventive measures recommended include wearing masks in crowded places, frequent handwashing with soap or using sanitizer, and covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
