In Bhagalpur district, the Ganga and Kosi rivers are in spate, leading to severe erosion problems. In the English Farakka area of Sabour block, erosion by the Ganga river has been ongoing since Sunday morning. So far, eight houses have been completely submerged in the Ganga, causing panic among local residents.

The Water Resources Department was already engaged in anti-erosion work, but the rapid erosion occurring in English Farakka went unnoticed by the department. When questioned about this, Executive Engineer Aditya stated that the department works to prevent erosion in a vast 50-kilometer area, addressing erosion wherever it occurs. When asked if there were no prior preparations for this specific area, especially since erosion occurred at the same spot three years ago, he responded, "What preparations can we make in advance?"

This incident comes as 3.65 lakh cusecs of water have been released from the Gandak-Kosi barrage, further increasing river levels. The rising water levels in rivers also pose a flood threat in other districts, including Supaul and Jamui. The affected families in English Farakka now face the crisis of homelessness. Demands are being made to the administration for immediate assistance and effective measures to halt the erosion.
