A tragic road accident in Bhojpur district has claimed the life of a ward member, leaving his wife critically injured. The incident occurred late Thursday night on the Ara-Mohania National Highway near Ramsagar, under the Gidha OP of Koilwar police station. The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Shivji Singh, a ward member from Ward No. 6 of Jamalpur Panchayat in Koilwar block. His wife, 40-year-old Rita Devi, sustained severe injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Ara.

According to reports, Shivji Singh was returning to his village Jamalpur from Koilwar market with his wife on a motorcycle. Near Ramsagar, an uncontrolled truck approaching from behind collided with their bike. The impact was so severe that Shivji Singh died on the spot, while Rita Devi was critically injured and fell onto the road.

Following the accident, the truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Local villagers informed the police. Upon receiving the information, Gidha OP police reached the spot and sent the injured Rita Devi to Ara Sadar Hospital for treatment, from where she was referred to a private hospital. Police took possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem examination to Ara Sadar Hospital.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Jamalpur Panchayat and Koilwar block. Ward member Shivji Singh was known for his amiable nature and social work. His family is in deep distress. Police have seized the truck and are searching for the absconding driver, stating that the accused driver will be arrested soon and further legal action will be taken.
