Patna: The Cyber Police in Patna, Bihar, have busted a large cyber fraud network, arresting three individuals suspected of defrauding approximately Rs 25 crore through fake corporate or current accounts. This was revealed by Patna Cyber Police Station इंचार्ज cum DSP Sangeeta Kumari.

DSP Kumari stated that recently, cyber fraudsters had been targeting Rapido drivers, luring them with substantial sums of money in exchange for providing bank accounts. Succumbing to this temptation, some Rapido drivers opened fraudulent current accounts in their names and handed them over to the criminals. These accounts were then used for transactions involving the embezzled funds. The police initiated action under Cyber Police Station Case Number 1121/26, dated August 15, 2026.

Based on technical investigation and leads, the police first arrested an accused from the Gandhi Maidan police station area in Patna. Following his information, a second accused was apprehended from the Rajiv Nagar police station area, while the third was arrested from Buxar district. The arrested individuals include Prabhakar Kumar, Amit Kumar, and Deepak Kumar Rawat. Two of them are Rapido drivers, and the third is a resident of Jamui district. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they received Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 per transaction, earning up to Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 monthly.

Police recovered five mobile phones, an ATM card, a chequebook, and a cheque from the arrested individuals. Examination of these digital pieces of evidence is expected to yield crucial information about other members of the network. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the IT Act. All three arrested accused have been sent to judicial custody. The police are now working to identify the main operators of the entire network.
