Life in Bihar has been severely disrupted by the monsoon season, with rivers overflowing and causing widespread flooding. More than 12 districts, including the Danapur Diara region of Patna, are grappling with a severe flood situation. Water has entered fields, roads, hospitals, homes, and many secondary school premises, bringing educational activities to a complete halt.

On September 9, 2026, holidays were declared for affected schools in Danapur and other parts of the state. The government and District Magistrates (DMs) have ordered school closures in view of the flood situation. According to the Bihar Water Resources Department and disaster relief bulletins, several major rivers in the state are flowing above the danger mark.

Key areas affected by floods and waterlogging include Danapur Diara in Patna (more than 7 panchayats), Samastipur (over 45 schools), and parts of Saran-Begusarai. In Danapur Diara, connectivity to 7 panchayats, including Kasimchak, Purani Panapur, and Ganghara, has been cut off. Approximately 49 schools in these areas are either waterlogged or have 3 to 4 feet of water flowing on their access roads. Over 45 schools in Samastipur and 26 schools in Naugachhia, Bhagalpur, have been temporarily closed due to waterlogging.

The Education Department and the state government have not issued a blanket order for school closures across Bihar. Decisions on holidays are being made by the respective District Magistrates based on the local flood situation. The continuous school closures have raised concerns among 10th and 12th-grade students about their syllabus. The administration is considering running extra classes once water levels recede. Schools in districts or cities not directly threatened by waterlogging or floods remain open and classes are ongoing.
