Raipur: In a significant operation conducted on Tuesday under the 'Operation Yatree Suraksha' campaign by the South Eastern Central Railway, a joint team of RPF and GRP arrested six members of the infamous 'Paper Gang' from Munger, Bihar. This action was based on a theft reported on July 12, 2026, on train number 58214 Titlagarh Passenger.

Yagya Narayan Soni, a resident of Raigarh, had filed a report with GRP Bilaspur stating that during his journey from Bilaspur to Raigarh, approximately ₹2.74 lakh in cash and gold ornaments were stolen from his plastic box. The victim had expressed suspicion about certain individuals during the journey.

Given the modus operandi of the theft, the Crime Branch (CIB) of RPF and GRP suspected the involvement of an interstate 'Paper Gang'. A special investigation was launched under 'Operation Yatree Suraksha', examining CCTV footage from Bilaspur, Jairamnagar, Akaltara, Naila, and Champa railway stations. The footage, cross-referenced with city traffic cameras and other technical evidence, revealed the suspects' movements. Investigations showed the accused were staying in a hotel and were linked to an organized theft gang from Bariarpur, Munger, Bihar.

Technical surveillance also indicated that the gang was preparing to commit another theft in the Bilaspur area. Acting on this intelligence, a joint team of RPF CIB Bilaspur and GRP planned and executed an operation, leading to the arrest of six accused. All arrested individuals — Chhattis Kumar, Sagar, Pintoo Raj, Uday Kumar, Shintu Kumar, and Himanshu Kumar — are residents of Bariarpur, Munger, Bihar. The main gang leader, Ranjeet Kumar Mandal, and Deepak Kumar Mandal are currently absconding.
