Many rural areas in Bihar are grappling with severe water scarcity, forcing residents to search for drinking water. Recent reports indicate that the 'Nal Jal Yojana' (Tap Water Scheme), launched under the 'Jal Jeevan Hariyali' mission, is progressing at an extremely slow pace, leading to widespread discontent among villagers. Residents complain that while work on laying pipelines and connecting homes to water supply began, it remains incomplete in many areas. In some places, pipes have been laid but left unconnected, while elsewhere, connections have not been provided to households.

This dire situation compels people to travel long distances to fetch water from hand pumps or wells, wasting considerable time and energy. The problem intensifies during the summer months when groundwater levels drop, and traditional water sources dry up. Women and children, in particular, bear the brunt, having to cover significant distances, which negatively impacts their education and health.

Villagers have urged local administration and public representatives to expedite the completion of this scheme. They warn that if the issue is not resolved promptly, they will be forced to launch protests. Residents allege that contractor negligence and departmental apathy are primarily responsible for the delays. They have appealed to the government for immediate intervention to accelerate the project and ensure access to clean drinking water.
