The Bihar Police Sub-ordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) has cancelled the mains examination for the recruitment of 1799 Sub-Inspectors, which was held on May 27, 2026. The commission issued an official notice citing 'unavoidable reasons' for the cancellation. New dates for the examination will be announced shortly.

This decision comes after persistent demands from candidates to annul the exam due to alleged irregularities and malpractices. Suspicions arose following the mains exam results, which reportedly showed a peculiar pattern where 301 candidates seated consecutively in 79 locations had passed. Furthermore, an FIR was lodged against a solver syndicate at Rampur police station in Gaya on the day of the exam, and a similar case was registered in Purnia in June. There were also allegations of question papers and OMR sheets being leaked and circulated on social media.

Candidates had submitted evidence and photographs related to these alleged irregularities to the Economic Offence Unit (EOU) and the commission, prompting this significant decision. While the commission's notice did not explicitly state the reason for cancellation, it has assured candidates that those who were shortlisted for the mains exam will now have another opportunity to appear. The BPSSC has urged all candidates to rely solely on official announcements from their website and disregard any misleading information spread by antisocial elements.

The mains examination comprises two papers: a 200-mark General Hindi paper with 100 questions (requiring a minimum of 30% marks), and a second paper with 100 questions covering General Studies, General Science, Civics, Indian History, Indian Geography, Mathematics, and Mental Ability. Both papers will be of 2-hour duration and will include a negative marking of 0.2 marks for incorrect answers. Candidates who clear the mains examination will proceed to the Physical Eligibility/Efficiency Test (PET).
