The issue of the dilapidated bridge near Koria Toll on the Benipatti-Umgaon (Harlakhi) main road, which has been in a state of disrepair since July 2024, has now reached the Divisional Commissioner of Darbhanga Division. Following a first appeal filed by Benipatti-based social and RTI activist Trilok Nath Jha regarding the bridge's poor condition, dangerous diversion, and public safety, the administration has taken the matter seriously. The Commissioner has ordered an on-site inspection and resolution of the problem within 15 days.

During the hearing before the First Appellate Authority and Divisional Commissioner of Darbhanga Division, appellant Trilok Nath Jha and the Executive Engineer of the Road Construction Department, Madhubani, representing the public authority, were present. After hearing both parties, the authority issued an interim order. The appellant had demanded a permanent solution for the dilapidated bridge and a safer diversion.

The Divisional Commissioner has instructed the Executive Engineer of the Road Construction Department to inspect the site, resolve this public interest issue as per rules within 15 days, and submit a clear report on the actions taken at the next hearing. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for August 22, 2026, at 11 AM.

The department's report stated that the damaged bridge has been inspected by the Superintending Engineer and the Project Engineer of Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited. The bridge's sub-structure is RCC, but two girders of the middle span have failed and sagged. For safety, vehicular movement on the bridge has been completely stopped, and a bituminous diversion has been created for traffic. However, the appellant objected to the departmental report, raising serious concerns about the safety of the diversion, as accidents have occurred on this route previously. Local residents emphasize that the Koria Toll bridge is crucial for the Benipatti-Umgaon main road, and its dilapidated state causes daily inconvenience to a large number of people.
