Darbhanga: Central Team Investigates Quality of Benipur-Manigachhi Road, Samples Collected
Serious questions have been raised regarding the quality of the newly constructed 18-kilometer road connecting Benipur to Manigachhi block headquarters in Darbhanga district. On Saturday, a team from the Central Quality Control Agency inspected the road and collected samples of construction materials from the site.
Central team official Jagdish Garg excavated the road to check its thickness and collected samples of the construction material. These samples will be sent to a laboratory in Delhi for testing, and only after the report is submitted will the actual quality of the road be clear. During the inspection, RWD Benipur Executive Engineer Vivek Kumar Soni, Assistant Engineer Sunil Kumar Prasad, JE Vinita Kumari, and other officials were present. A three-member team deputed by Darbhanga Rural MLA Rajesh Kumar Mandal alias Ishwar Mandal also participated in the inspection.
The road, built at an estimated cost of ₹23.92 crore, commenced construction in July 2024 and was slated for completion by January 2026. However, within a year of its construction, complaints emerged about gravel coming loose and rough patches in the concrete sections of the road. Local residents and Dr. Ram Mohan Jha, president of Mithila Sangharsh Morcha, had lodged complaints with state and central investigation agencies regarding the quality.
Suman Kumar Jha, the proprietor of the construction agency, claimed that this was the 12th inspection of the road and that previous 11 inspections had found the construction work satisfactory. However, a final decision will be made only after the central team's report is released.
