A tragic incident occurred in Ugnichak village, Jamui district, on Wednesday morning, where a 38-year-old farmer, Sandeep Kumar Singh, died after coming into contact with a fallen 440-volt power line in his field. The incident has sparked outrage among villagers, who are accusing the electricity department of gross negligence.

According to Gurelal Singh, the deceased's uncle, Sandeep had gone to his field to check on the water supply. A 440-volt high-voltage wire, connected to a cement electricity pole, was lying on the ground in his field. Due to the early morning darkness and the grass in the field, Sandeep did not see the wire and was electrocuted.

Upon receiving the news, family members and villagers rushed to the scene. After considerable effort, the power line was removed, and Sandeep was pulled out. He was immediately taken to the Sadar Hospital for treatment. Relatives stated that Sandeep showed some signs of movement upon reaching the hospital, but doctors declared him dead after examination.

Villagers allege that this high-voltage wire had been lying on the ground for a long time, but the electricity department failed to take any action to repair it. They hold the electricity department solely responsible for this accident. Sandeep Kumar Singh was the sole earning member of his family. His father, Kaushal Kishore Singh, had previously passed away from cancer. He leaves behind his elderly mother, wife, and a 10-year-old son. The incident has brought immense grief to the family. Police arrived at the scene after being informed and have initiated an investigation into the matter.
