Excise police conducted a major operation near the Dumri checkpost on the Jamui-Deoghar main road, seizing foreign liquor worth approximately two lakh rupees. The liquor was hidden in a secret compartment of a car. The operation took place near Baghmara, about three kilometers from the temple complex in Deoghar district, Jharkhand. Along with the liquor consignment, two smugglers were arrested.

The arrested smugglers have been identified as Vikas Sada from Darbhanga district and Akhilesh Sada from Supaul district. During interrogation, Akhilesh Sada informed the excise police that this consignment of liquor was being transported from Deoghar to Supaul at the behest of Sandeep Yadav, a resident of Supaul. The police have impounded the car and are currently interrogating the arrested individuals to uncover the entire smuggling network.

Throughout 2026, the excise police in Jamui district have been actively combating liquor smuggling. Previously, on January 18, 4,968 bottles (1,861 liters) of foreign liquor were seized from a postal parcel vehicle at the Dumri checkpost. On March 25, four smugglers were apprehended with 1,513 bottles of liquor at the same checkpost. On June 5, a smuggler was arrested near the Chaura river with about 55 liters of liquor. On June 17, 1,331.280 liters of foreign liquor were recovered in the Chakia checkpost and Khapadiya areas, and on June 27, three people were caught with 50.25 liters of liquor from Simartala village in Sikandra. On July 5, 933.120 liters of liquor, hidden under vegetables, were recovered at the Sono-Dumri checkpost. Despite continuous operations, smugglers continue to devise new methods, posing an ongoing challenge for the police.
