Heavy rainfall has thrown life out of gear in Simri Bakhtiyarpur, Saharsa district. Continuous downpours have submerged the entire town, turning main roads into virtual ponds and causing immense difficulties for commuters and local residents. Key thoroughfares including Bazar Samiti Road, Main Bazar Road, Station Road, Thana Road, Purani Bazar Road, and Ranibagh Road are inundated with knee-deep water. This has made pedestrian movement challenging and vehicular traffic nearly impossible.

This severe waterlogging raises serious questions about the claims made by the Nagar Parishad (municipal council). Local residents assert that the council's assurances regarding drainage have proven hollow. Every monsoon, this problem escalates, yet no concrete steps are taken for a permanent solution. The cleaning of drains and overall drainage management remain inadequate.

Schoolchildren, the elderly, and patients are particularly affected, forced to navigate through waterlogged streets. Water has also entered numerous homes and shops, leading to property damage. Businesses are suffering as customers are unable to reach the markets due to the flooding.

Local residents have urged the Nagar Parishad to swiftly implement proper drainage systems and find a lasting solution to this recurring issue. They warn that if the situation does not improve, they will be compelled to launch protests.
