The Bihar State Human Rights Commission has taken serious cognizance of a case in Gaighat block of Muzaffarpur district. The commission has directed the District Magistrate to submit an inquiry report within eight weeks. This matter stems from a complaint filed by Virendra Manjhi, a ward member from Ramnagar Panchayat, Ward No. 4. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for September 28, 2026.

Mritunjay Kumar Singh, district convener of the All India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha (AIKMS), stated in a press release on Tuesday that over 60 landless Mahadalit (Musahar) families in Ramnagar Ward No. 4 have been forced to live in huts for years. These families were entitled to land ownership certificates under 'Abhiyan Basera' and benefits from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin).

According to the complaint, the then Circle Officer of Gaighat, Shivangi Pathak, and some revenue officials allegedly demanded bribes to facilitate these schemes. It is alleged that upon refusal to pay bribes, incorrect verification reports were submitted, attempting to deprive these families of their due benefits. Mritunjay Kumar Singh has welcomed the Human Rights Commission's action. He has demanded action against the guilty officials, cancellation of the alleged fake inquiry reports, re-verification by an impartial officer, and provision of land certificates, Prime Minister's housing, electricity, water, and toilet facilities to all eligible families. Singh warned that if impartial investigation and action against culprits are not taken in time, and victims do not get justice, the organization will launch a widespread agitation across the entire Muzaffarpur district.
