Five patients suffering from snakebites have been admitted to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Jaynagar, Madhubani district, over the past few days. Fortunately, all patients received timely medical attention and are now reported to be out of danger and in stable condition. Dr. Vijay Kumar, the in-charge medical officer of the hospital, stated that the increase in snakebite incidents is attributed to heavy rainfall and waterlogging in the area. Snakes, which typically inhabit dry places, are now entering homes and residential areas due to flooded environments, posing a significant risk to residents.

Dr. Kumar identified the patients as Asha Devi from Kodarkatta village, Mohd. Shafiq from Bela village, Munna Kumar from Ward No. 12 of Jaynagar, Lakshmi Devi from Ward No. 10 of Jaynagar, and Mohd. Akhtar from Belhi village. All were promptly administered anti-snake venom (ASV) and continuously monitored by the medical team. Timely and appropriate treatment saved their lives, and they are now safe.

The medical officer urged the public to exercise extreme caution during the rainy season. He advised using mosquito nets while sleeping at night and maintaining cleanliness around homes. People should avoid accumulating bushes and garbage, as these are ideal hiding spots for snakes. He also recommended wearing shoes and long trousers when working in fields or open areas. In case of a snakebite, it is crucial to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health center and avoid traditional remedies, which can be fatal.
