जानकारी के अनुसार, नीरज कुमार को 19 अक्टूबर को दोपहर में बिहार के सीवान जिले में पूजा के दौरान दिल का दौरा पड़ा था। इसके बाद उन्हें तुरंत पटना लाया गया और देर शाम मेदांता अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया। बताया जा रहा है कि तीन बार विधान परिषद सदस्य रह चुके नीरज कुमार पहले से ही हृदय रोग के मरीज हैं।
यह घटना ऐसे समय में हुई है जब बिहार विधान परिषद चुनाव के लिए 23 अक्टूबर को मतदान होना है। बिहार में चार स्नातक निर्वाचन क्षेत्र और चार शिक्षक निर्वाचन क्षेत्र के लिए मतदान होगा। नीरज कुमार की तबीयत बिगड़ने से NDA के लिए मुश्किलें बढ़ सकती हैं, क्योंकि वे पटना स्नातक निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से NDA समर्थित JDU के उम्मीदवार हैं।
पटना स्नातक निर्वाचन क्षेत्र में नीरज कुमार के अलावा, प्रशांत किशोर की जन सुराज पार्टी से डॉ. अनुज सिंह और राष्ट्रीय जनता दल (RJD) से दिलीप कुमार भी चुनाव लड़ रहे हैं। नीरज कुमार तीन बार से MLC रहे हैं और उन्होंने 2020 के पिछले चुनाव में 20948 वोटों से जीत हासिल की थी।
चुनाव के बीच नीरज कुमार को अपनी ही पार्टी के विधायक बाहुबली अनंत सिंह के विरोध का भी सामना करना पड़ रहा है। अनंत सिंह ने खुले तौर पर जन सुराज पार्टी के उम्मीदवार डॉ. अनुज सिंह को समर्थन देने की घोषणा की है और नीरज कुमार को हराने का संकल्प लिया है। बिहार में स्नातक और शिक्षक निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों की कुल आठ सीटों पर 23 अक्टूबर को एक साथ मतदान होगा।

In the Patna Graduates' Constituency, besides Neeraj Kumar, Dr. Anuj Singh from Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraj Party and Dilip Kumar from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) are also contesting. Neeraj Kumar has served as an MLC for three terms, having won the previous election in 2020 with 20,948 votes.
Amidst the elections, Neeraj Kumar is also facing opposition from his own party's strongman MLA, Anant Singh. Anant Singh has openly declared his support for Jan Suraj Party candidate Dr. Anuj Singh and has vowed to defeat Neeraj Kumar. Polling for all eight graduate and teachers' constituencies in Bihar will take place simultaneously on October 23.
