The State Level School Weightlifting Competition 2026-27 has commenced at the Sports Building-cum-Gymnasium in Jehanabad. District Magistrate Chhiring Y Bhutia inaugurated the significant event. A total of 130 male players from 9 divisions of Bihar and the Eklavya Centre, across Under-17 and Under-19 categories, are participating in this competition.

The competition began with the singing of Vande Mataram, instilling a sense of patriotism. The inauguration ceremony was further enhanced by captivating cultural programs, yoga music, and Kathak dance performances. Addressing the athletes, the District Magistrate encouraged them to play with discipline and true sportsmanship, emphasizing that sports build physical and mental strength and inspire progress in life.

Prominent figures present included Arun Kumar Kesari, Chairman of the Bihar Weightlifting Association, and Arun Kumar Ojha, President, among others. On the first day of the competition, bouts were held in the 56 kg weight category for Under-17 boys, and the 60 kg weight category for both Under-17 and Under-19 boys. The results of these matches are expected to be announced the following day. Organizers have made comprehensive arrangements for all necessary facilities for the players, ensuring they can perform at their best without any hindrance. Hosting this state-level event has injected new energy and encouragement into sports activities in Jehanabad district, motivating local athletes.
