A 19-year-old youth, Rajnish Kumar, son of Rai Sahab Sahni from Mathurapur village, was shot in the mouth during a party near the Burhi Gandak River waterways (Sindhia Wah) under the Kalyanpur police station area in Samastipur district on Tuesday night.

According to the police, a group of youths was partying near Sindhia Wah when an argument broke out between Rajnish and some other individuals. The dispute escalated, leading one of the youths to pull out a weapon and shoot Rajnish in the mouth. After being shot, Rajnish collapsed, and his companions abandoned him, bleeding, in a secluded spot before fleeing.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Rajnish was immediately rushed to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Kalyanpur. Due to his critical condition, doctors provided first aid and then referred him to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment, where his condition remains serious.

Kalyanpur Station House Officer (SHO) Ranbir Kumar Rawat stated that the police initiated an investigation immediately after being informed of the incident. He assured that strict legal action would be taken once a written complaint is received from the victim's family or the injured youth. Police teams are currently conducting raids at possible hideouts to identify and apprehend the absconding accused.
