On the second Monday of Sawan, a remarkable display of devotion was witnessed across Shiva temples in Kishanganj district. The historic Baba Bhoothnath Gaushala Shiv Mandir in Purvapali, particularly, saw a massive influx of devotees, with an estimated 50,000 pilgrims arriving.

Devotees undertook a pilgrimage of approximately 15 kilometers, carrying holy water from the Mahanand River at Belwa in Sadar block and the Donk River at Odra Ghat to the Baba Bhoothnath Temple. Pilgrims, with 'kanwars' on their shoulders and puja materials in hand, were deeply engrossed in their devotion. Upon reaching the temple, they performed 'jalabhishek' (offering water) to Lord Bholenath with full rituals, praying for the prosperity, health, and happiness of their families. Devotees believe that sincere prayers and offerings at Baba Bhoothnath's shrine fulfill wishes. This belief drew a large number of devotees from various blocks of the district and surrounding areas. Darshan and jalabhishek continued from morning till late evening.

Given the massive crowd, the district administration implemented extensive security and crowd management measures. Magistrates and police forces were deployed at the temple premises and major routes, with plainclothes police personnel monitoring sensitive areas. Security checks were conducted before temple entry, and separate queues were arranged for men and women. Continuous surveillance was maintained through CCTV cameras, and traffic arrangements were altered on some routes to manage the Kanwar pilgrimage.

Service camps were set up at various locations in the city to facilitate devotees, providing drinking water, refreshments, first aid, and resting facilities. Volunteers from various social and religious organizations, including Bajrang Dal and Veer Shivaji Sena, assisted the Kanwariyas throughout the day. At the Mahanand River Ghat in Belwa, barricades were erected for the safety of devotees bathing and collecting water, and an SDRF team was also deployed. Shiv temples in Thakurganj town and rural areas also made special preparations for the second Monday of Sawan, adorned with attractive lighting.
