The water level in the Kosi River continues to rise, leading to a significant increase in water discharge from the Kosi Barrage. Over the past 24 hours, the discharge from the barrage has surged by 31,000 cusecs, reaching a total of 1.30 lakh cusecs. This unexpected rise in water levels has prompted the administration to escalate its vigilance and place relevant departments on high alert.

According to reports, all gates of the Kosi Barrage, located in Nepal, have been opened to ensure smooth water outflow. The primary reason for this increase in water level is the continuous rainfall in the hilly regions of Nepal, which directly impacts the flow of the Kosi River. In response to the rising water volume, the administrations of the concerned districts have alerted residents in villages situated along the riverbanks and in low-lying areas. Disaster management teams have been instructed to remain prepared to handle any potential flood situation.

Local authorities have intensified monitoring of embankments, and engineers have been directed to continuously assess the situation. Necessary preparations are underway to address any adverse circumstances. Residents have been urged to avoid approaching the river and to adhere to the guidelines issued by the administration.
