The Kosi River's water level has risen once again in the Mahishi block of Saharsa district, causing significant distress to local residents. The surging river has led to the complete closure of the Bahorwa-Beldawar main road, disrupting connectivity and daily life for many. This road, considered a lifeline for the region, is now submerged, making travel impossible.

Local sources indicate that continuous rainfall in Nepal's Terai region and the upper catchment areas of the Kosi River over the past few days is responsible for the rapid rise in water levels. Water has started inundating several low-lying areas, raising concerns about potential damage to paddy crops. Dozens of villages have been cut off from the block headquarters due to the road closure.

Residents are facing immense difficulties, with students, patients, and daily commuters being the most affected. Boats are now the only means of transport, but they pose a risk. Locals are forced to cross the river by boat, endangering their lives. The supply of essential goods is also impacted.

Villagers express frustration over the lack of concrete action from the administration. They assert that they face similar situations every year during the flood season, yet no permanent solutions are implemented. They are appealing to the district administration to arrange sufficient boats, provide relief materials, and undertake long-term measures like strengthening embankments and improving drainage systems.
