In Kusheshwarsthan East block of Darbhanga district, the receding water level of the Kosi river has led to severe erosion. Over the past four to five days, approximately four to five acres of cultivable land have been submerged by the river, destroying ready vegetable crops and increasing farmers' distress.

According to villagers, river erosion is rapidly increasing towards the Harinahi border, where about two to three meters of land are being lost to the river daily. A week ago, rising water levels in the Kosi river had raised fears of floods, but while the receding water has mitigated flood risks, erosion has exacerbated the problems for residents.

The erosion has affected the land of several farmers, including Satyanarayan Mukhia, Narayan Mukhia, Mahadev Mukhia, and Ramdev Mukhia. Their crops, including pointed gourd, okra, and brinjal, have been washed away. Farmers lament that months of hard work and thousands of rupees invested in their crops were lost in an instant.

Around eight to ten acres of land in the erosion-affected area are used for vegetable cultivation. If the erosion continues at this pace, more fields could be submerged. Erosion has also been reported in the villages of Chhotki Konia, Kunjbhavan, and Konia.

Villagers have urged the Water Resources Department to immediately initiate anti-erosion measures to protect farmers' land and crops. Rakesh Roshan Bharti, Circle Officer of Kusheshwarsthan East, stated that a revenue official would conduct a physical verification of the erosion site, and a letter would be sent to the concerned department to start anti-erosion work upon receiving the report.
