On Tuesday, a significant protest was staged by the Bihar State Construction Workers Union (AITUC) at the Laukahi Anchal office in Madhubani district. The laborers gathered to press for their various demands, but their efforts to engage with the Circle Officer (CO) were thwarted by the CO's absence from the office. This unfortunate situation meant that no discussions could be held regarding their pressing issues.

The union leaders highlighted their key demands, which include ensuring that construction workers receive benefits from government schemes, guaranteeing minimum wages, establishing fixed working hours, and providing essential safety equipment. Workers expressed their frustration over often being paid less than the minimum wage and the prevalent disregard for safety standards at work sites. Furthermore, they reported not receiving full benefits from government initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and MGNREGA.

During the protest, laborers chanted slogans and attempted to submit a memorandum outlining their demands to the CO. However, due to the CO's unavailability, the memorandum could not be delivered. Union representatives issued a stern warning, stating that if their demands are not addressed promptly and if the Anchal office fails to take appropriate action, they would be compelled to escalate their agitation with larger protests in the future. This incident raises concerns about the efficiency of local administration, as the absence of officials during crucial meetings directly impacts the resolution of public grievances. The workers hope that the administration will take their demands seriously and resolve their issues without delay.
