Eight people died in Bihar on Tuesday (August 11, 2026) due to lightning strikes. Five fatalities were reported in Banka district, while three people lost their lives in Nawada. The three deceased in Nawada were identified as Mani Manjhi (60), Rajendra Manjhi (20), and Indrajeet Manjhi (18), all residents of Sitamarhi district.

In Banka, five individuals died and seven others sustained serious burn injuries from lightning. All injured are currently receiving treatment at nearby health centers. In Bonda village, under the Suiya police station jurisdiction of Chandan block, three women from the same family sought shelter under a tree during rainfall. A sudden lightning strike killed all three instantly. The deceased were identified as Kusmi Devi (45), wife of Shambhu Yadav; Rinku Devi (35), wife of Tipan Yadav; and Renu Devi (38), wife of Rajendra Yadav, all residents of Bonda village and sisters-in-law. The tragic incident has plunged the village into mourning, with family members inconsolable.

In the same incident, Saurabh Kumar (son of Tipan Yadav) and Rani Kumari (daughter of Kartik Yadav) suffered severe burns. Saurabh was referred from Katoria Hospital to Banka for better treatment, while Rani Kumari is still undergoing care.

Further lightning incidents in Banka district occurred in Kaji Carry and Siray villages, under the Bounsi police station area. Sufia Khatoon and 70-year-old Suresh Yadav died while working in their fields.

Upon receiving news of the incidents, Belhar MLA Manoj Yadav visited the Katoria Community Health Center. He met with the bereaved families, offering condolences and assurance. The MLA has spoken with senior district administration officials, promising to ensure that affected families receive all possible government compensation and assistance.
