A tragic incident occurred in Madhepura district during the Jitiya festival when a teenager drowned while bathing in a river. Saurabh Kumar, 17, son of Ravindra Yadav, a resident of Bhagwanpur Ward-2, Sahugarh-2 Panchayat, drowned on October 3rd in the Sahugarh river. He had gone to bathe with others but ventured into deep water and was submerged. Initially, no one was aware of his drowning.

When Saurabh did not return home by late evening, his family began searching for him, but he could not be found that night. The next day, with the help of an SDRF team and local divers, the search operation intensified. Approximately 36 hours later, Saurabh's body was recovered from the river, about one kilometer from the incident site. Saurabh's uncle, Arjun Yadav, stated that upon learning of the incident, locals and family members searched for him, but due to nightfall, their efforts were unsuccessful. The SDRF team was called in the morning, and after persistent efforts, the body was found.

Following the recovery of the body, necessary legal procedures were carried out in the presence of the police, and the Sadar police station handed over the body to the family after post-mortem. Saurabh was the second of three siblings. News of his death has plunged the family into deep sorrow, with his parents in inconsolable grief. A pall of gloom has descended upon the village. Mukesh Kumar, the head of Sahugarh-2 Panchayat, offered condolences to the grieving family and assured them of necessary initiatives to provide government assistance. Former head Arvind Kumar Yadav and Dr. Himanshu, among others, also visited the Sadar Hospital to meet and console the bereaved family. The entire village is mourning the loss of the teenager.
