The plan to install street lights and CCTV cameras to enhance security in the main roads and various wards of Madhubani district headquarters has not yet been completed. Due to the neglect of administrative officials, this scheme remains stuck in files. The initiative was intended to curb the rising crime rate, especially incidents of theft and snatching during festivals, but it has not materialized on the ground.

Approximately two years ago, the district administration and the municipal corporation had formulated a plan to install modern LED street lights and high-capacity CCTV cameras on all major roads, busy intersections, and sensitive wards of the city. The primary objective of this scheme was to manage crowds in markets during festivals, curb criminal activities like theft, snatching, and molestation, and ensure the safety of women. However, due to administrative apathy, this ambitious project has remained confined to paperwork.

During festivals, women and families frequent the main market, railway station road, bus stand road, and inner roads of various residential wards late into the night. In the absence of street lights and CCTV cameras, it becomes difficult for the police to identify criminals after any incident. Residents emphasize the need to prioritize the installation of CCTV cameras at the city and ward levels to improve security, allowing people to feel safe and free from the fear of crime.

Regarding this, Mayor Arun Rai stated that street lights have been installed in the city and extended wards, and the process of installing lights in the remaining areas will be completed soon. He also mentioned that as soon as departmental funds are received, CCTV cameras will be installed along with lights in wards 1 to 45. Efforts are being made at the departmental level, and soon residents will benefit from improved lighting and strengthened security measures.
