Tension has escalated in Mokama, Patna district, following the arrest of Ranjan Kumar, an employee of the Mokama Municipal Council, on charges of possessing liquor and a weapon. Police claim that during a raid at Kumar's residence in the Chintamanichak area, a pistol, cartridges, and liquor were recovered, leading to his arrest. However, the police's handling of the situation has drawn significant criticism.

In protest against the arrest, municipal council employees have locked the main gate indefinitely and are staging a sit-in demonstration, chanting slogans against the police administration. Nilesh Kumar, Chairman of the Municipal Council, has labeled the police action as 'dictatorial and arbitrary,' alleging that the police framed an innocent employee in a false case to cover up their own failures.

Kumar's family members also assert his innocence, stating that he has no criminal record. According to them, his elder brother, who worked in Gujarat, suffered a fatal heart attack upon hearing the news of Ranjan's arrest.

The incident has also brought the security situation in Mokama under scrutiny. Station House Officer Kunal Kumar revealed that out of 160 CCTV cameras supposed to be installed in the municipal area, only 10 are currently functional. He questioned why the police receive no technical assistance from the municipal council during criminal investigations and demanded to know the whereabouts of the remaining 150 cameras. The arrest of Ranjan Kumar and the poor state of CCTV cameras have raised serious questions about local administrative efficiency and transparency.
